Description:
Let’s put on a musical! “Stone Soup” is a folk tale about what can happen when people put aside their prejudices and work together. Variations of this story exist in many forms, and we will be working to put together our version: a “Rock” Opera! Throughout our session students will sing, dance, and help stage a simple musical. Students will design and “build” all sets, costumes, and props. In addition, in true homeschool style we’ll have enrichment extensions built upon the Stone Soup theme, including (but not limited to) experiences with visual art, folk dance, storytelling, journaling, mindfulness exercises, games, and even culinary arts!
Students will be given breaks for lunch and an afternoon snack, and there will be time for small group/independent play built into the day. Students will be expected to be respectful of each other, our teachers, and the beautiful facility of James Island Arts and Cultural Center. We will be spending our time both inside and outside of the James Island Arts and Cultural Center so please send your kids in clothing that is ok to get a little messy! As this is a 5-hour drop-off class please be certain that your child is able to maintain appropriate behavior for the entirety. We are unable to accommodate any special needs at this time as we do not have the capacity for individualized attention.
COVID-19 Policy:
For the foreseeable future we are not planning to require masks, but they are certainly welcomed and honored. All of our teachers are fully vaccinated. We've been postponing our launch for 2 years because of pandemic, and wanted to wait until it was "safe enough" to move forward without masks, since it's hard to sing in them. Thank you for understanding, and please reach out with any questions.

In addition to being a singer and choral director, Danielle plays piano, flute, and guitar, and is a member of Taiko Charleston. Her experiences with performing, classroom teaching and homeschooling have fueled her interest in bringing holistic, collaborative, and meaningful music learning experiences to homeschooling families in Charleston. She lives on Johns Island with her husband, three wildlings, and their three-legged dog, Penny, and they spend nearly all of their time outdoors in the beautiful Lowcountry.

Breanna D'Alessandro - Breanna is an experienced early childhood educator who has been working with children for over 20 years through teaching, nannying, and volunteering. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art History from California State Fullerton. She returned to Saddleback College and obtained an Early Childhood Teacher Certificate. She has always loved working with children, sharing in the passion and enthusiasm for learning through experimentation, discovery, and expression. She lives on James Island with her devoted husband, wonder-filled son, and their lovable Labrador, Sam. They share a passion and love for art, nature, and the great outdoors; spending every opportunity outside with family and friends.

Lana Cillie - Lana is an ICU nurse turned homeschooling mother of two residing in North Charleston. She has a master’s degree in nursing education and translates her experience with adult learners to meet the needs of children as they are, where they are. Her homeschooling style is eclectic, rooted in nature, and rich in hands-on exploration. For the past two years she has worked collaboratively with other parents in a homeschool village cooperative where she has fueled her passion for mindful child-led learning. Her personal hobbies include handcrafting and endurance sports, and you may run into her at local races in and around Charleston.

Brittany Geddis - Brittany is a lifelong musician, artist, and all-around creative person. As a student at the College of Charleston she participated in music and drama both on the stage and behind the scenes working with costume design, makeup, and stage design. She has worked as an accompanist for choral ensembles, costume and hair/makeup designer for school theater productions, and as a master face painter for her exuberant homeschooled nieces and nephews. She lives on Johns Island with her husband, teenager, and goofy dog.
